How to make public comment at a regular Town Council meeting for an item not on an agenda.

Members of the public can provide comment during a regular Town Council meeting without advanced notice. For items not listed on an agenda, public comment is called for at the beginning of the meeting and is limited to 3 minutes. As a general practice, Council does not discuss, debate, or act on issues raised or listed under public comment. Council may or may not discuss an issue raised under Public Comment later in the meeting during Matters from Mayor and Council, at their discretion.

Members of the public planning to speak under the Public Comment section of a regular Town Council meeting may request to have their name listed on an agenda by submitting a letter to the Town Clerk at least 10 business days prior to a regular Council meeting. Once received, the Town Clerk will notify the author of the date and time of the Council meeting where their name will be listed and include their letter in the Council packet posted to the public. The letter shall: 1) Clearly indicate the request to be placed on a Council agenda, and 2) Include the speaker’s name, and 3) Briefly describe the issue on which they plan to speak. As a general practice, Council does not discuss, debate, or act on issues raised or listed under public comment. Council may or may not discuss an issue raised under Public Comment later in the meeting during Matters from Mayor and Council at their discretion.
