Police Blotter
January 29, 2020
It was a slow Wednesday with only 25 calls for service between the day and night shifts. What do we do with that much time. Don’t worry, we fill it up with enforcing traffic laws and training. This morning Cpl. Jones was training his team on issues related to how officers should respond to calls and watch each other’s back to stay safe. Other times, we train on policy and procedure or caselaw as it relates to our jobs.
20012736: On January 29, 2020, at about 5:07 p.m., Officer Mattson responded to a confused male stumbling around in the lobby of a hotel. The man was asking for a key to his room, but wasn’t a registered guest. Officer Mattson responded to the location and found the man as described. Yes, he was intoxicated, but he also had some medical issues. Rather than just arrest the man, Officer Mattson looked for a more appropriate resolution by calling EMS to have any medical issues addressed and then calling some of his friends to come help the man out. Ultimately, Officer Mattson was able to resolve the call without having to make an arrest. Sometimes jail is the right answer and sometimes it’s not, like in this case. Excellent work.
That was it for Wednesday. Stay safe.
