April 24-26, 2020
Blotter time.
20042345: On April 24, 2020 at 4:38 p.m., Officer Kynette responded to a report of Theft. The victim reported $2,000 was stolen from their room. The victim suspected their roommates. Officer Kynette conducted her investigation and interviewed the possible suspects, but was unable to determine they were responsible for the crime. That happens more often than we would like, but we do our best. We’ll come back to this if more information becomes available, but for now, the case will remain inactive.
20042349: On April 24, 2020, at 4:56 p.m., Officer Figueroa responded to a report of Harassment. He learned that a man left a note for another man whom he had a protection order against. The other man wisely did not respond to the note, but contacted police to have us document the incident. The other man believed the contact was an attempt to get him to violate the protection order against him. Officer Figueroa contacted the man who left the note and asked him not to do so again.
20042409: On April 25, at 10:24 a.m., RO Schmidl responded to a Civil Dispute. We learned that a woman borrowed money to purchase a car, gave the money to a friend to buy the car, but got a car other than the one she wanted. RO Schmidl was not able to determine a crime was committed but made this report for informational purposes anyway.
20042418: On April 25, 2020, at 12:03 p.m., Officer Figueroa responded to a report of Child Abuse. This is an active investigation and we will be working with the Department of Family Services to reach the right conclusion. We will not be releasing any further information on this case, because it involves a juvenile victim.
20042478: On April 25, 2020, at 8:56 p.m., Corporal P. Smith responded to a bicycle accident. When he arrived, the bicycle rider inexplicably drew a knife from his pack and held it to his own throat. What followed, was a very tense standoff as Corporal P. Smith and Sgt. Kellams attempted to get the man to put the knife down. They used the skills they had learned at Crisis Intervention training and did an outstanding job keeping the man calm while they tried to get him to cooperate. He did eventually and they were able to detain him, but he then made statements that he had built a pipe bomb and left it somewhere on the bike path. JPD officers and TCSO deputies both searched the bike paths in the area the man he said he left the pipe bomb, but did not locate one. The man later said he lied and there was no pipe bomb. It didn’t end there, however. The man later attempted to stab one of the officers with a pen. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured and Corporal P. Smith and Sgt. Kellams were able to restrain him. The 41 year old Jackson, WY man is facing charges of Felony Interference with a Police Officer and Terroristic Threats.
