Police Blotter
June 26-28, 2020
Welcome to the blotter. Here are the report calls we took over the weekend.
20063232: On June 26, 2020, at 1:03 a.m., Cpl. P. Smith stopped a vehicle for speed and failing to use its turn signal. When he contacted the driver, she appeared intoxicated and was slurring her words. She did poorly on her field sobriety testing and Cpl. P. Smith had to arrest her. The 31 year old Wilson, WY woman’s breath test was a .16%.
20063249: On June 26, 2020, at 8:47 a.m., RO Swicegood responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim left their unsecured vehicle in a parking lot while at work, with the keys in the center console. During that time, someone stole his vehicle. The next day, Cpl. P. Smith was searching the town and found this stolen vehicle parked in the parking structure. It had fresh damage and some tools had been stolen from it. We are still investigating this one and have some promising leads. We’ll let you know if we need community help.
20063278: Traffic Accident.
20063289: On June 26, 2020, at 1:50 p.m., Officer Blair responded to a report of Theft. The victim reported leaving their unlocked bike in the bike-racks at the Center for the Arts. When they returned a few hours later, their $300 bike was gone.
20063317: On June 26, 2020, at 4:19 p.m., Officer Blair responded to a report of Fraud. The victim reported someone had filed an unemployment claim in their name. She will document the incident, but referred the victim to the Department of Labor in the state where the claim was made.
20063354: Traffic Accident.
20063476: On June 27, 2020, at 7:42 p.m., RO Schmidl responded to a report of a Collision. It was reported a vehicle crashed into the walls of the Pine Glades Tunnel and was headed north into town. She quickly found the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle would not stop. What followed was a slow-speed pursuit that ended when Officer O’Donnell blocked the way to prevent the vehicle from entering the area of the square. When they contacted the elderly driver, they found them to have a suspended license and advanced dementia. RO Schmidl decided arresting the 82 year old Montana man wasn’t the right solution but had him taken to the hospital to be evaluated, though she still had to give him some citations for the suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident. Why did she have to do that? The property he ran into belongs to someone. The prosecutor will need to make sure the victim is compensated for the damage to their property and the citations are the mechanism to ensure that happens.
20063481: On June 27, 2020, at 8:58 p.m., Officer Mattson responded to a report of a Runaway. The parents of a teenage child reported them as a runaway. Officer Mattson began searching and making calls to the different places the teenager was likely to be or people who might know where she is at. The parent later contacted us to say the child had been located and we didn’t need to keep searching.
Here are the other thing we did.
