[ARCHIVED] Expanded Street and Parking Closure for Hill Climb Event

Hill Climb Closure Expanded

Expanded Street and Parking Closure for Hill Climb Event
Wednesday, March 20 - Sunday, March 24

Beginning Wednesday evening, March 20 at 7:00pm, the Town of Jackson will be closing Snow King Avenue between Flat Creek Drive and King Street for the 43rd Annual World Championship Hill Climb event.  Cache Street will also be closed between Snow King Avenue and Pine Drive.  These road closures are anticipated to last until late Sunday night, March 24.

Due to the impressive amount of snow that we have received this year, snow storage in the Fairgrounds lot is taking up space traditionally utilized to park large trailers for the Hill Climb event.  On-going construction and construction staging taking place in the Fairgrounds is also occupying space traditionally used by the Hill Climb to park large trailers.   In addition, streets in town have become more narrow this winter due to the amount of snow and ice on the sides of the road, increasing parking and travel challenges.

Due to these unusual circumstances, the Town Council has approved an expanded street and parking closure for this year’s Hill Climb in order to accommodate space for the number of vehicles and trailers associated with the event.  The purpose of this closure is to provide adequate parking for the event while considering public safety and residential impact.

The closures will be in effect starting on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00pm and will last until the evening of Sunday, March 24.   Please note that the north / south access to Millward Street and Glenwood Street on Snow King Avenue will remain open. Residents who access their homes along these portions of Snow King will still be allowed access. START Bus will be utilizing a detour around this closure and will bypass the bus stops in between Flat Creek Drive and King Street.  This will impact the Town Shuttle, Yellow Line and commuter routes.

“We are asking that the public be patient as we work to accommodate trailer parking for this long-running special event,” said Sam Jewison, Streets Manager.  “You will be able to get to where you need to go, but please expect a slight disruption of normal traffic patterns.”

The Town of Jackson asks that people respect all closures posted for this event.  We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any disruption that this may cause.  Lastly, we ask that you slow down and use caution while utilizing any detours through residential neighborhoods.

For any questions on these closures please contact Carl Pelletier, Special Events Coordinator, at 307-734-3488 or at cpelletier@jacksonwy.gov.

Thank you
