SCAMMERS USING JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT PHONE NUMBER
October 22 – The Jackson Police Department has been made aware of a potential scam operation that is currently taking place in the Town of Jackson. A scammer is calling individuals in the community from a number which appears to be the Jackson Police Department’s main phone line: (307) 733-1430. The individual has been posing as a Jackson Police Officer and informing individuals that they have been issued a subpoena. The scammer then instructs the individuals to obtain a money order to resolve the issue. These scam calls began taking place at approximately 8:30am on Friday, October 22, 2021.
Please be assured that a Jackson Police Officer would not instruct anyone to obtain a money order to resolve any sort of ticket, subpoena or other legally issued document. If you or anyone you know has received a phone call from what appears to be a Jackson Police Officer and have concerns of the caller’s legitimacy please call the Town of Jackson’s Police Department at (307) 733-1430 or the Teton County Dispatch Center’s non-emergency number at (307) 733-2331.
Local law enforcement is currently working to resolve this issue. The Police Department is advising anyone who has received a request from someone who claims to be from the Jackson Police Department not to obtain a money order or any other form of payment as instructed by the scammer, but rather contact the local authorities.
