The Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department has been transitioning to winter operations over the least several weeks.
There has been much interest in the timing of grooming and ice rinks with our early snow and cold temperatures.
Cross Country Ski Track Grooming will begin once we get another snowfall accumulation of at least 6 inches or so. Most areas didn’t receive enough snow from the last storm for the Pistenbully groomer to get out safely. Several areas are still accessible due to boot packing of the trails (i.e. Emily’s Levee) and Friends of Pathways has begun setting single track up Cache Creek.
Ice rinks (TC Fairgrounds, Powderhorn Park and Owen Bircher Park) are in a similar position. The snow came warm and wet prior to the cool down so our bases are still soft, and we are seeing areas that are melting from the bottom up. Another accumulating snow and cold temps will allow our team to get them up and running.
Parks and Recreation typically get started in early December grooming and have the rinks ready shortly after dependent upon weather. We appreciate the community’s patience and look forward to a great winter!
