Sign Permit

Purpose

The purpose of a sign permit is to ensure that all signs are in compliance with the Town sign standard.

When Is This Required?

All signs require a permit unless exempt in Division 5.6

Process

Helpful Tips

  • Do not order your sign until you have read the sign regulations which prohibit certain materials, colors and elements (i.e. lighting).
  • To ensure that the sign permit is reviewed in a timely manner, please follow all instructions on the application by providing the required materials, including all required drawings.
  • The Notarized Letter of Authorization is needed when the Applicant is not the the owner of the property.
  • There are several types of signs allowed in the Town. Please note the sign type for which you are seeking approval on the application.
    • Projecting Sign
    • Wall Sign
    • Canopy Sign
    • Monument & Entry Sign
    • Freestanding Sign


How to Apply

Please submit an application packet via email to the Planning Department which includes the following (paper applications are not accepted):

  • Sign Permit Application Form
  • Submission requirements:
    • Site plan which depicts the property boundaries, building footprints, and the location of each proposed sign.
    • Description of the dimensions, colors, materials, and types of any existing sign which will remain.
    • Illustration of each proposed sign which includes dimensions, colors, materials, and type of sign.
    • Installation specifics, required setbacks, height, and clearance for each sign.
    • Specifications for proposed lighting.
  • Notarized Letter of Authorization if the applicant is not the property owner.

The planning department will contact you after your application has been reviewed for payment via credit card (Visa/Mastercard/Discover). You can also drop a check at the planning department during normal business hours.
