Planning & Building  

The Planning and Building Department supports short and long-range planning activities for the citizens of the Town of Jackson. The department reviews permit applications, issues building and related permits, and inspects buildings and properties to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

The Planning and Building Department is committed to providing the people of Jackson an unmatched quality of life defined by safe buildings and streets, innovative urban and neighborhood design, and first-class environmental, artistic, and recreational amenities. To implement this mission, we commit to the following goals:

• Work collaboratively with landowners, neighbors, and the general public to realize the community’s vision expressed in the Comprehensive Plan, especially when competing priorities and interests are involved and require resolution.

• Deliver permitting and inspection services in a responsive, efficient, and appropriate manner, consistent with all applicable code requirements.

• Enforce the Town’s codes equitably.

• Manage growth and change in a manner that balances new development with the character of existing neighborhoods and historic assets.

• Support Town officials and other Town departments by offering holistic, well-researched data and recommendations that are non-political and based on best regional and national practices.

• Engage all stakeholders to develop better-informed plans.

• Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards to earn and maintain the public’s trust.
